About a quarter of hospitals were in breach of the waiting-time target for endoscopy tests that could diagnose bowel cancer every month last year, a charity has warned.

Bowel Cancer UK and Beating Bowel Cancer said waiting-time figures released by NHS England highlight the “scale of the endoscopy crisis” and are further evidence that demand for diagnostic tests is outstripping capacity.

Every month last year almost 2,900 patients on average had to wait longer than six weeks for endoscopy tests at their local hospital in England while an average of more than 2,300 patients with suspected cancer had to wait longer than two weeks for an urgent referral.

Uber is launching a new scheme to make it easier for drivers to give feedback to the taxi hailing firm.

An advisory group of drivers will be established in every city where Uber operates.

Uber said the aim was to give drivers the chance to feed back on a new product or on any decisions affecting them.

A Facebook executive has reaffirmed the social network’s pledge to remove “bad content” from the site.

The company’s chief product officer Chris Cox told the firm’s Communities Summit in London that Facebook was keen to answer criticism aimed at its impact on society.

Facebook was among the social media giants to appear before a special session of a House of Commons committee in Washington DC on Thursday as part of a parliamentary inquiry into fake news.
