WORCESTERSHIRE'S Chloe Golding is in Team England's swimming squad for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The Evesham teenager has been named among 24 athletes to join 15 in the first phase of selections by Swim England in October.

Backstroke specialist Golding, 19, now trains with the City of Manchester club after competing for Great Britain juniors while swimming for Ellesmere College Titans in Shropshire.

The GB age group champion, who studies at Manchester Metropolitan University, Tweeted: "So happy to be going to my first Commonwealth Games as part of Team England."

In December she took an unexpected victory in the women’s 200-metre backstroke final at the Swim England National Winter Championships.

Golding had already gone under the consideration time for Commonwealth selection in the 100m backstroke behind Jessica Fullalove at the competition.

She clocked two minutes 9.93 seconds in the 200m for a personal best which was also good enough to make the Games.

Golding, who has trained at the swimming clubs in Evesham and Worcester, said afterwards she had been focusing on doing weights and her training.

The opening ceremony of the Games in Australia is on April 4.
