A CONTROVERSIAL £100m project which could see the creation of more than 2,500 jobs is one step closer after Redditch Council gave it the go-ahead - subject to any legal agreements and conditions.

The Redditch Eastern Gateway development, which could be sited east of Redditch at the junction of the A4023 and A435 and close to Ravensbank Business Park, went before Redditch planners last night.

A council spokesman said: "It has been delegated to the head of service in consultation of the chair of the planning committee to grant planning permission - subject to any legal agreements and conditions."

Because the development is so large, with the site falling in Bromsgrove, Redditch, and Stratford districts, an identical application had been sent to all councils.

Stratford planners meet last week but they could not give the plans the green light.

The application was deferred so that a HGV routing strategy can be provided by the applicant.

Although the applicant, Redditch Gateway Infrastructure Limited, submitted an advisory route with the application, the recommendation to committee included the attachment of a condition to require a final HGV routing strategy to be submitted and approved prior to occupation.

Members however wanted this information provided prior to determination.

It is not know when the application will come back to committee.

Bromsgrove Council planning committee met on Monday, December 4 and approved the project.

The scheme must gain approval from all three councils to be given full permission.

The potential 75-acre site could see the creation of up to 2,500 jobs and almost one million square feet of new office and industrial space.

However, residents living close by in Winyates Green, have raised concerns relating to traffic, noise and building works of having such a large development in their neighbourhood as well as the overall impact if it's built.
