A HASELOR couple has been fined more than £6,000 after refusing to move illegally sited caravans.
Mr Paul and Mrs Hayley Maddix, of Toll Bar Cottage, were successfully prosecuted by Stratford District Council after pleading guilty of failing to comply with an enforcement notice.
Nuneaton Magistrates Court heard that the council issued a notice on the unlawfully siting of five caravans- later reduced to three, on green belt land which the couple owned.
There had been a change of use of the land and caravans were being used for sleeping accommodation or additional living space.
The couple failed to act on the notice and were ordered to pay Stratford District Council £5,955.00 as well as court costs.
The district council’s decision to prosecute was judged as reasonable by magistrates.
The couple had failed to follow the law over a five year period and only adhered to the notice after the court proceedings began.
