A DEDICATED pensioner who has run a business at the heart of the community for almost 40 years has seen his life’s work destroyed after callous thieves made off with a large amount of cash.
Alan Stephens, aged 71, who has run Alcester Sports and Tackle on Tything Road for 36 years, was “devastated” after thieves broke in overnight, between 8pm on Tuesday, July 7 and 9am on Wednesday, July 8.
His daughter Tina said it was unlikely that the shop would be reopened.
Forced entry to the shop was made and once inside an untidy search was made.
A number of items were stolen and further damage was caused to the shop’s till and display cabinets after a tap was left turned on.
Police are keen to speak to anyone who saw a white Ford Transit van around the area.
Anyone who saw anything suspicious around the time of the incident is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 95 of July, 8.
