ALCESTER and Stratford District Round Table made donations to several charities and good causes after raising more than £4,000.

The leading local men’s organisation raised the money by holding collections during its annual Santa tours which visited Alcester, Stratford, Bidford and Studley over 11 nights in December.

Over 14 local groups benefitted from the fundraising efforts by receiving £300 each during a presentation held at the Holly Bush pub in Alcester.

The recipients include Alcester Town Football Club, Bidford Juniors Football Club, Friends of Haselor Academy, Coughton CE Primary School, Great Alne Primary School, Alcester Army Cadet Force, Alcester Guides and Scouts, Alcester Nursery and Temple Grafton CE Primary School PTA.

Touchstones, a charity working with young people who have suffered bereavement, Alcester First Responders, trained volunteers who administer emergency life-saving treatment and advanced first aid, and Lifespace, a mentoring charity for young people aged nine to 19 also received donations.

Richard Handy, Alcester and Stratford District Round Table chairman, said: “We raised a record sum this year as we took Santa out for 11 nights and covered a larger area than ever before.

“This meant we were able to distribute £4,200 at our charity giveaway to the organisations that helped us collect and which do so much good in our local communities.”

The group is part of the international Round Table organisation which offers young men aged 18 to 45 the chance to make new friends, try new experiences, and give something back to their local communities.
