THEIR eyes met over a collapsed man they were caring for in a shopping centre in Redditch, and now two Community First Responders are to be married.
Kelly O’Brien was manager of a jewellers at the Kingfisher Shopping Centre where Dave Tew was a security officer and a Community First Responder (CFR). A man had collapsed outside the shop.
Mr Tew, who is also the co-ordinator of the Redditch CFR scheme, came to the man’s aid and Miss O'Brien came out to help.
Later, impressed by Mr Tew's first-aid skills, she asked him about his training and then decided to become a CFR herself.
Four years later, on April 22 this year - which is Miss O'Brien's birthday - Mr Tew proposed and she accepted. They are due to marry next year.
He said: “We will both carry on as Community First Responders. Kelly now helps me run the scheme. Next year we will be a husband-and-wife team in charge of the team.”
