ALCESTER Crown Green bowlers started the week with a good home win in the Northfield League Division Three.

The visitors were Valley B, who went down by 34 shots as Alcester continued to keep up the pressure for promotion.

Half the side produced brilliant wins, namely Renny Bannister (21-3), Trish Barry (21-6), Ken Harvey (21-7) and John Alderson (21-9), with Dave Hovell adding a fifth winning card at 21-15.

In the penultimate week in the Yardley Wood League found Alcester A visiting the dreaded Ye Olde Knowle green to play the hosts A team.

A defeat by 59 shots resulted, with Alcester only managing a single winner with a narrow 21-19 success for David Whittington.

In Division Five, the B team entertained the Ye Olde Knowle B team, and reversed the A team’s result, to win by the same margin and seal promotion.

It was also the penultimate week in the Heart of England Division Six. Still with a chance of promotion, Alcester B needed a big win to close the gap on Yardley Wood Social.

This they accomplished in fine style with a maximum 10-0 victory over visitors King George VI B.

Brilliant winners for Alcester were Ken Craddock (21-3) and Trish Barry and Ken Harvey (both 21-6).

The Over-60s Division One match saw Alcester A fall to a heavy defeat at Kings Norton A by 38 shots.

Renny Bannister was the only Alcester winner at 21-13, to give Alcester a single point against the hosts seven.

In Division Six, Alcester B entertained Wootton Hall B in a match of topsy-turvy results.

Alcester produced three crushing winners in Margaret D’Elia (21-2), and Ken Craddock and Red Masterson (both 21-4), but had to concede a heavy 6-21 reverse. The outcome was a 28 shot victory for Alcester, who gathered five points.
