A REDDITCH man is training to run 101km around Arrow Valley Park in just one day on Thursday, August 22 to support local charity Onside.

John Douglas, age 49, hopes to raise more than £1,000 to help Onside provide more hours of group and one-to-one support to local people and their families who are vulnerable and face isolation as a result of a disability, mental ill health or old age.

Mr Douglas said: “People think I am crazy. I wanted to give myself a big challenge and running more than three marathons in a day is definitely that. It will test my fitness and mental stamina and I hope it will inspire people to support me as well as learn more about Onside’s great work.

Mr Douglas is a volunteer and trustee at Onside and wanted to find a way of raising some money to help Onside do more. He is being supported by Tom Gallagher and Johnny Carberry-Rogers who are running half the distance each to raise funds for the RAF benevolent fund.

People are invited to come along to Arrow Valley Park on August 22 to cheer Mr Douglas on, or can sponsor him by visiting www.justgiving.com/johndouglas52.

Onside is celebrating 20 years of supporting local vulnerable people to live better lives and have a family treasure hunt and sponsored 20km walk coming up to raise vital funds. More details are available at onside-advocacy.org.uk.
