THREE friends from Alcester have completed a 100-mile cycle ride from one side of the British Isles to the other to raise money for a local charity.

Jane Vance, her husband Malcolm and their friend Natalie Duff, completed the cycle ride last weekend, following Hadrian’s Wall across the north of England, from the Solway Firth on the Scottish border to Tynemouth on the east coast.

Mrs Vance said: “It was brilliant, absolutely fantastic, we’d do it again. Myself and Natalie had gone out training beforehand. My husband hadn’t, but he was fine.

“We went up to Newcastle on the Friday, started cycling on Saturday and finished by Monday afternoon, and we dipped our bikes in the North Sea.

“We cycled through torrential rain on Sunday, but we finished that day in the sun. It can be so localised up there, it’s just one of those things, and it’s really beautiful.”

The friends had already organised the trip when they decided to try and raise some money for charity at the same time, and they set up a fundraising website for Myton Hospice.

So far they’ve raised more than £500 and they’re still receiving donations. Anyone wishing to donate to their efforts can visit mytonhospice.org/150513-route-72-hadrians-wall-cycleway.
