JULY’S talk by Phred Newbury was titled Apes with Altitude. As the pun might suggest this talk gives an insight into the lives of mountain gorillas who are critically endangered.
There are believed to be only 880 left in the world and the Gorilla Organisation is dedicated to protecting gorillas from all perils including war, illegal snares, deforestation and contracting human diseases.
Gorillas are peaceful herbivores, not the aggressive creatures of myth and legend. They deserve to be protected and to maintain their habitat.
Phred was passionate about supporting the Gorilla Organisation (formerly known as the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund Europe) which helps the gorillas by implementing community conservation programmes.
By helping and employing local people, whole families gain from this approach to conservation, ensuring that they too benefit and genuinely profit from their unique natural heritage.
