A WOMAN died in a road collision in Redditch at the weekend.

It happened on the northbound carriageway of the A435 Portway, on Saturday, July 13, at about 3.07pm and involved a silver Renault Twingo and a silver Volkswagen Golf.

The female driver of the Twingo, in her 60s and who has not yet been named, was confirmed dead at the scene by paramedics.

An inquest will be opened in due course.

The male driver and four passengers in the Golf were all taken to the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch for treatment; two by air ambulance and three by road.

Their injuries were not life threatening.

The northbound carriageway of the A435 was closed up to the junction with the M42 until about 7.30pm.

The southbound carriageway was also closed for a short time to allow the air ambulance to land.

PC Gethin Venn of West Mercia Police said: β€œA woman has tragically lost her life and our thoughts are with her family at this sad time.

β€œAn investigation has been launched into how and why this collision occurred, and we are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact us on the non-emergency number 101, quoting incident reference 355-S-130713.”
