WORCESTERSHIRE Rapids skipper Daryl Mitchell is urging his team-mates to back up their stunning midweek display at Yorkshire Vikings in the Royal London One-Day Cup.

The County dismantled a star-studded Yorkshire side by seven wickets at Headingley as they romped to their first victory in this season’s competition.

Now Mitchell wants his side to repeat that level of performance against Durham Jets at Emirates Riverside tomorrow (11am).

“Our performance at Headingley was probably the most complete we have put together in 50-over cricket for some time,” said Mitchell.

“Yorkshire had a lot of experience in their side with eight internationals and hopefully we can keep up the momentum against Durham.

“I lost the toss at Headingley but I would have bowled first anyway.

“Shants (Jack Shantry) and Leachy (Joe Leach) set the tone with the ball and kept things tight, Ed Barnard and Dolly (Brett D’Oliveira) came on and George Rhodes did very well.”

Rapids dismissed Vikings for 170 and, with Leach blazing 63 from 35 balls and Tom Kohler-Cadmore hitting a run-a-ball 42, Rapids romped home in just 25.5 overs.

“It was a punt to open the batting with Leachy because we thought we had nothing to lose and it worked out for us,” said Mitchell.

“I don’t know whether he’s ever opened the batting before, it was definitely the first time he had done it for Worcestershire.

“He hit the ball with power, we had 90 runs on the board in no time and made a huge dent into Yorkshire’s total.

“Leachy now gives us a decent option with the bat and it might be something we look to do again in the future.”

Rapids lost their first match in the competition to Derbyshire but they have already beaten Durham once this season in the NatWest T20 Blast.

Kohler-Cadmore hammered Durham’s attack for 127 in a 38-run win for Rapids at New Road.

“Durham are a decent side with a lot of quality players and we know we will have to play well to beat them,” said Mitchell.

“It is a tough ground to win at but we showed what we can do against them in the T20 Blast.

"I know it was in a different format but it underlines what we can achieve if we play well. It’s important we back up our win against Yorkshire.”
