ROSS Whiteley scored his first half-century for England Lions and shared in a big hitting stand with Joe Clarke in the second 50-over match with Pakistan 'A' in Dubai.
Worcestershire all-rounder Whiteley reached his fifty off the final ball of the innings from just 30 balls with two sixes and three fours.
His County colleague Clarke made an unbeaten 25 off 13 balls with three sixes.
The pair came together at 248-5 in the 45th over after the Lions had been put into bat and smashed an unbroken 66 off just 5.1 overs.
It enabled the Lions to reach a formidable 314-5 in their 50 overs.
The platform for the late onslaught by Whiteley and Clarke was laid by Middlesex's Dawid Malan.
He continued the fine form shown in the pre-Christmas T20 series by making 114 off 109 balls with two sixes and 12 fours.
Malan received good support all down the order with skipper James Vince (29), Tom Westley (20), Sam Billings (31) and Liam Dawson (33) all chipping in with useful knocks.
Meanwhile, Worcestershire 2016 NatWest T20 Blast overseas player Mitchell Santner was part of the New Zealand which defeated Pakistan today by 95 runs in a T20I.
Santner had only a bit part role, scoring two not out as the Black Caps amassed 196-5 and then bowling one over for seven runs as Pakistan were dismissed for 101 in 16.1 overs.
