MOEEN Ali is looking forward to an “exciting 12 months” after England launched their 2015 programme by flying out to Australia yesterday to prepare for the Tri-Nations Series with the host nation and India.

The Worcestershire all-rounder is relishing the prospect of being involved in the World Cup Down Under next month and, if all goes to plan, an Ashes series against Australia this summer.

Moeen is relatively happy with his performances for his country during the opening 12 months of his senior international career but feels he can get better and that he is approaching his peak.

The 27-year-old said: “It is a very exciting 12 months, very busy and hopefully, if I can get into all the squads throughout the summer it will be a fantastic feeling.

“With the World Cup, I can’t wait and everyone is excited and really looking forward to it and with the Ashes, I think everyone who is going to be involved will feel the same way.

“But first there is the Tri Nations and we will try to do well in that as a team,” he added.

As regards his first year with England, Moeen said: “Am I happy with the way it has gone? I think so. You always feel that you can do better but I’m happy I’m in the squad and in the side at the moment.

“I’ve put in some good performances but I only feel I can get better.

“I feel like I’m hopefully getting into my peak time now.

“I always felt I was ready to play and, now that I’ve played a bit of international cricket, I feel that I can adjust and definitely feel confident that I will get better.”

Moeen scored his first one-day international century for England during the recent tour of Sri Lanka when he finished as second highest run scorer behind Joe Root.

He said: “Was I happy with the Sri Lanka trip? Yes, I got a good chance opening the batting and I was very happy about that.

“I had some good performances although again you always feel that you can do better.

“But in general I was pretty happy.”

Moeen had expressed his determination ahead of the series to play with a no fear approach and he was as good as his word.

He struck more sixes — 12 — than any other England player and also had the highest strike rate of 123.56.

Moeen said: “100 per cent, I think I’m going to play like that (without fear) and hopefully put some good performances in for the England team.”
