ROSS Whiteley picked up a rare wicket and made useful runs on the second day as Worcestershire drew their pre-season friendly with Gloucestershire.

Whiteley, who did not bowl in senior cricket last summer, dismissed Tom Smith in his second over at Royal Grammar School Worcester's Flagge Meadow.

He then batted for one hour and three quarters for 34 before being dismissed late on.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore made 19 not out in his return from shoulder surgery.

Gloucestershire declared their first innings at 85-4 overnight from 30 overs.

They batted for a second time in reply to the hosts' 182-9 from 60 overs.

Jack Shantry broke through with 35 on the board as Cameron Bancroft was lbw for 21.

Opener Chris Dent hit one six and five fours before retiring at lunch on 51 off 87 balls.

Shantry ensured Benny Howell departed lbw for a duck in his 2-14 from 11 overs.

Whiteley's breakthrough with Smith caught behind by Ben Cox saw Gloucestershire declare at 187-3 from 59.4 overs.

In reply Daryl Mitchell and Tom Fell fell for golden ducks to the first two deliveries by Ollie Currill.

Brett D'Oliveira (9) was dismissed by Chris Liddle on 22.

Whiteley and Kohler-Cadmore added 42 before the former's dismissal after four fours from 83 balls as Worcestershire closed on 68-4 from 30 overs.

Wickets had tumbled on the first day.

Ed Barnard (54 not out) and George Rhodes (27no) prevented an early finish to the County's first innings.

None of the top four reached double figures as Craig Miles took 4-33, Currill 2-23 and Liam Norwell 2-16.

Skipper Joe Leach claimed 3-19 in the reply.
