JACK Shantry and Charlie Morris shared nine wickets as Worcestershire overpowered Oxford MCCU by an innings and 120 runs in The Parks in less than two days actual playing time.

Shantry, who came on second change, produced his second five-wicket haul of the game and ended with the remarkable figures of 13.3-9-8-5.

That gave him match figures of 31.3-19-26-10 – his second 10-wicket haul in three first class games after his heroics in the LV= County Championship Division Two clash against Surrey last September.

Morris was almost as effective and the County’s players’ player of the year finished with 4-17 from nine overs.

Oxford MCCU were dismissed for 95 in 37.3 overs, losing their nine wickets for 51 runs after reaching 44-1, with Gareth Andrew – 1-47 from 11 overs – the other wicket-taker.

There were four catches for wicketkeeper Ben Cox, including the last three dismissals.

The County will now wrap up their pre-season programme with a two-day game this week against Northamptonshire at Northampton, beginning on Tuesday.

Worcestershire were looking to make up for lost time after the second day wash-out following a successful opening day in which they bowled the students out for 124 and replied with 155-2.

Skipper Daryl Mitchell was unbeaten on 51 overnight with Alex Gidman four not out.

The pair extended their third wicket stand to 40 before Mitchell fell to Jack McIver for 64, made off 119 balls with nine fours.

Alexei Kervezee (7) was dismissed by the same bowler to leave Worcestershire on 199-4. Gidman made 43 off 79 deliveries with one six and four fours, and added 46 for the fifth wicket with Tom Kohler-Cadmore, before he was bowled by Malcolm Lake.

Lake also accounted for Cox for 15 to leave Kohler-Cadmore unbeaten on 25 at lunch, with the Worcestershire total on 266-6 from 66 overs.

The County had added 111 runs from 30.5 overs in the morning session for the loss of four wickets and their overall lead stood at 142.

Kohler-Cadmore and Brett D’Oliveira featured in an unbroken stand of 76 in 18 overs before the declaration at 339-6 from 79 overs.

Kohler-Cadmore made an unbeaten 63 from 104 balls with six fours, while D’Oliveira finished 30 not out from 62 deliveries, hitting three boundaries.
