TWENTY20 cricket is always great fun when you are winning but it can be depressing if it isn’t going well, so I am glad to see the back of it now.

We finish our Friends Life t20 campaign at Northamptonshire tonight (6.30pm) and there won’t be much riding on the game.

They have already secured a home quarter-final, while we are already out of the competition.

As ever, professional pride will be at stake for both sides and we will be going out to win.

Northants will want to win too to maintain their momentum going into the knock-out stages.

Their death bowling has been exceptional this season — Muhammad Azharullah has been one hell of a find for them and David Willey has turned into a fine cricketer too.

We will look to build on the momentum we gave ourselves with Saturday’s five-wicket win over Somerset at New Road.

Our run-chase in the second-half of the game was good, but we fielded poorly and our bowling was not spectacular.

However, it was outstanding to chase that kind of total down — Ross Whiteley did fantastically well on his debut.

I have not seen a massive amount of Ross in the past, but all the reports I’ve had have been good and it looks like we have found ourselves a good cricketer.

We have an easy dressing room to settle into and he has been a bit quiet so far, but I’m sure he will come out of his shell as time goes on.

Andre Russell’s knock in the Somerset game was excellent.

I’ve never come across anyone who hits the ball like he does.

It was great to have Andre with us this season and hopefully he will be able to come back again some time in the future.

Looking ahead, we host Kent at New Road on Friday as we return to LV= County Championship Division Two action.

Personally, I am looking forward to getting back to red ball cricket — the four-day game probably suits my abilities a bit better than t20!

We had a good win over Kent in the game down at Canterbury earlier in the season, so we will be looking to do the double over them.

They have a very experienced side with a lot of senior players and they probably haven’t been doing as well as they should have been this season.

I’m sure it will be a tough game, but we are all looking forward to returning to Championship action.
