ADAM Finch played his part as Midlands under 17s defeated the South West by 89 runs in the Super Fours opener at Loughborough.

The Worcestershire paceman took two wickets with the new ball as their opponents chased a 215 target.

The England under 19s bowler, who played in two of the five one-day internationals against India this month, dismissed Milo Ayres (7) and skipper Tom Bevan (4).

Finch, 17, helped to reduce the South West to 37-5 with figures of 6-1-20-2 before they were skittled for 125.

The Midlands elected to bat first after winning the toss and were bowled out for 214 in 48.1 overs.

Opener Jack Haynes scored six, County team-mate Zain Ul-Hassan eight and Finch two.

Finch is targeting a place in England’s squad for the ICC Under 19s World Cup in New Zealand in January.

In the series against India, who won 5-0, he had figures of 1-36 at Cardiff and 0-21 at Taunton.

Finch has impressed for the County seconds including taking 5-19 against Yorkshire.

At the world cup England will play group matches in Queenstown against Namibia, Bangladesh and Canada.

They have warm-up matches against Ireland in Christchurch and Sri Lanka in Lincoln.

But firstly England play a Tri-Series against South Africa and Namibia in Potchefstroom from November 30 until December 10.
