PACE bowling pair Matt Henry and Kyle Abbott are just the ticket for Worcestershire’s journey this summer.

Director of cricket Steve Rhodes believes he’s got “the right people” for Worcestershire’s “bus” after failing to land an English-qualified seam bowler.

Henry, 24, has started his three-month spell with Worcestershire and is a right-arm fast bowler.

South African quick-bowler Abbott, 28, will be the County’s overseas player for the second half of the campaign.

“We had to find out at the end of the season where the gaping holes in the squad were and, with us not managing to sign an English-qualified seamer which is what I went for, then it seemed obvious we needed a new-ball bowler,” said Rhodes.

“We needed someone with a bit more pace than we’ve got and that’s why we went for the overseas player as a bowler.

“They both bowl at mid-to-late 80mph and both can bowl well in the one-day format and at the death.”

Henry has played four Tests, 25 one-day internationals and five T20 internationals for New Zealand.

Abbott is an established performer for South Africa and represented his country at the T20 World Cup in India.

He also made 12 appearances for Hampshire in the 2014 NatWest T20 Blast season and enjoyed six-match stint with Middlesex last summer.

Rhodes said: “I have a saying that we’ve got to get the right people for our bus and I have done my research on their characters and attitudes.

“These players will add something to a young, exciting squad.”
