EVESHAM United striker Ashley Edenborough and attacking midfielder Lee Smith have quit the Jubilee Stadium outfit for clubs in the same division.

Edenborough has rejoined Swindon Supermarine with ex-Worcester City midfielder Smith returning to Cinderford Town.

The forward moved to Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West outfit Evesham at the start of last term.

Edenborough became a firm favourite with Evesham’s supporters after hitting 18 goals in 44 matches to finish as top scorer.

Smith, who arrived at Evesham from Hungerford Town in February, netted four in 15 appearances for United last season.

United boss Paul Collicutt was disappointed to lose the experienced pair but admitted he had already put in seven days’ notice on a player he wanted to sign.

“It has disappointed me more than anything else,”said Collicutt. “The two lads have made a decision to leave and I am disappointed to lose them. They will move on and the club will move on.

“I have put in seven days on a player, who I am not naming at the moment, and I will be looking to bring in one or two additions to the squad. The last seven days have been far from boring.”

The Robins recorded their best result of the campaign last Saturday when new loan signing Louis McGrory capped an impressive debut.

McGrory, an 18-year-old midfielder from Forest Green Rovers, netted a last-gasp goal in a 1-0 home success over in-form Winchester City.

Collicutt was delighted with McGrory’s impact and is pleased Rovers have given the teenager permission to play in Evesham’s FA Cup preliminary round clash at Chasetown on Saturday.

The winners will host Grantham Town in the first qualifying round next month.

“I have football friends in other counties and had a text from a contact last Thursday saying there was a player available and asking whether I be interested,” explained Collicutt.

“Louis is 18 and on a professional contract at Forest Green and the club were looking to get some first- team football into him.

“He lives in Swindon and we have got a few lads from there. Because he doesn’t drive, he can get a lift with them.

“We got him signed on and he put in an impressive display against Winchester in difficult circumstances.

“Louis is with us for a month and we are pleased Forest Green have granted him permission to play in the FA Cup.”

Collicutt expects to make a few changes for the Chasetown trip.

“Coming in on Saturday will be Lance Smith, who was unavailable last weekend, and Marcus Jackson, who served a three-match suspension and has overcome a hip injury,” he added.
