ROSS Whiteley completed a memorable first LV= County Championship Division One century for Worcestershire before another fine innings from Jonny Bairstow led Yorkshire to a seven-wicket win at Scarborough.

Whiteley had scored a hundred in a non-first class match against New Zealand in May and again showed his liking for the Tykes attack after his unbeaten 91 with 11 sixes in the NatWest T20 Blast last week.

He received good support from the lower order as Worcestershire, who followed on 150 behind, totalled 306 in their second innings.

But, after losing three wickets for 44, an unbeaten 74 off 51 balls from Bairstow, recalled yesterday to the England squad, and 58 not out from Alex Lees powered Yorkshire to a fifth successive Championship win.

Worcestershire showed plenty of fighting qualities and good cricket against the champions and current leaders and the five bonus points they picked up moved them out of the bottom two.

Resuming on 221 for six, Worcestershire bravely held out for 80 minutes while adding 85 runs to record the second highest second innings score against the County Champions this season.

Whiteley, 65 overnight, galloped on to 101 off 139 balls with 14 fours and two sixes before falling lbw to the first ball of Ryan Sidebottom's spell.

It was his highest score since making a career-best 130 not out for Derbyshire against Kent in 2011.

Whiteley and Joe Leach were in positive mood at the start of the day and they added 31 in 25 minutes before Leach, on 27, drilled Steven Patterson to Liam Plunkett at short extra cover.

Yorkshire took the new ball at 276 for seven in 81 overs and in his first over Jack Brooks bowled Jack Shantry with Whiteley departing in Sidebottom's next over trapped lbw.

But Worcestershire still had plenty of fight left in them as Saeed Ajmal and Charlie Morris added 26 together for the last wicket before the latter was bowled by Sidebottom for 11.

With rain threatening, Yorkshire were keen to get on with things and Alex Lees off-drove Leach for six as he and Will Rhodes raced the score to 29 in four overs.

Ajmal came on an over later and his second ball claimed a wicket, Rhodes aiming over the top only to be well caught by Shantry at deep mid-on.

Worcestershire struck twice after lunch with Jack Leaning lbw to Morris for four and Yorkshire skipper Andrew Gale (4) run out after a mix up with Lees.

But Bairstow continued the form which had brought him a first innings ton and he and Lees put on an unbroken 113 in 18 overs.
