ALL-ROUNDER Ross Whiteley is a slight concern for Worcestershire Rapids for tomorrow’s important NatWest T20 Blast floodlit clash against Durham Jets at the Emirates (7pm).

Whiteley smashed four sixes in an 18-ball 36 in last Sunday’s 11-run defeat against Nottinghamshire Outlaws at New Road.

He picked up a minor strain during Worcestershire seconds’ 62-run Championship defeat earlier this week against Leicestershire seconds at Kidderminster.

However, Whiteley’s withdrawal from batting during Worcestershire’s second innings was believed to be a precautionary measure.

Brett D’Oliveira, who hit 60 for the seconds, has been recalled to the Rapids’ 12-man squad after playing in the opening two games against Birmingham Bears and Leicestershire Foxes.

Moeen Ali is available after missing out on selection in England’s one-day squad for the series against New Zealand.

The all-rounder blasted 90 from just 50 balls in the Rapids’ 15-run win in a highscoring match against Northamptonshire Steelbacks last Friday.

Skipper Daryl Mitchell has called tomorrow’s fixture as “a big game” against a Durham side, who are top of the Northern Group after four wins from seven matches.

Last season, Durham won the corresponding fixture with the Rapids triumphing in a rain-affected return encounter at New Road.

The Rapids are sixth in the group which is wide open with virtually all the counties still in contention to qualify for the knockout stages.

Whiteley said: “All we need is to get on a bit of a run, get a bit of momentum. We are not going to get our heads down after losing against Notts on Sunday.

“We’re looking forward to the next games. We’ve got a tough one up at Durham but the boys will come back strong.

“We know we weren’t at our best on Sunday and we got pretty close. If we do click and come off, as shown at Northampton, we can get to that 200 mark plus.”

The Rapids have won two and lost two of their opening four matches — the same record as they had at the same stage of the 2014 tournament before a run of six wins on the trot propelled them towards the quarter-finals.

Rapids squad: Mitchell (captain), Oliver, Moeen, Kohler-Cadmore, Munro, Whiteley, Barnard, Cox, D’Oliveira, Leach, Shantry, Ajmal.
