CHARLIE Morris is battling to emulate spin wizard Saeed Ajmal and seamer Jack Shantry in topping the 50-wicket mark for Worcestershire in the LV= County Championship this season.

The paceman has taken 49 in the Championship Division Two with one game remaining against Essex at Chelmsford starting next Tuesday.

Morris has already reached 50 first-class wickets during the match against Derbyshire at Derby earlier this month with the aid of his four victims for Oxford University against Nottinghamshire in April.

Saeed leads the way with 63 victims from his nine County Championship appearances for the New Road side in 2014, while Shantry is not far behind with 54.

On the batting front, skipper Daryl Mitchell still comfortably leads the way as Worcestershire’s highest run-getter with 1,311 runs at an average of nearly 63.

Alexei Kervezee, Ben Cox, Tom Fell and Richard Oliver have all topped the 500-run mark in the competition.

Oliver has the highest strike rate of the County batsmen with an average of 85.1 runs per 100 balls.
