PLAYMAKER Jono Lance is hoping to fulfill his international ambitions during his three-month stint at Worcester Warriors.

The 27-year-old fly-half revealed the chance to catch the attention of Australia selectors with his performances in the Aviva Premiership was a “big reason” why he joined Gary Gold’s men.

Lance has already had a taste of international rugby having been an unused substitute in Australia’s 25-23 victory over France in November 2016.

But his hopes of securing his first cap were dented when he suffered a broken arm three minutes in to the Wallaby XV’s 19-11 loss to the Barbarians later that month.

It was a blow for Lance who has been hampered by injuries during his career and was not named in Australia’s squad for the recent Rugby Championship.

But with the autumn internationals less than a month away, Lance is determined to force his way back into the fold.

“At the end of last year I toured with the Wallabies and broke my arm pretty early on in the Baa-Baas game,” Lance said.

“But it is still an ambition of mine to wear the gold jersey.

“It was one of the big reasons why I decided to head over here as (the Premiership) is the best for rugby in the world at the moment, playing against international players week in, week out, so it was a great opportunity.

“I am not in contact (with Australia's coaches) as they have just finished up their Rugby Championship campaign, but hopefully I will be in contact in the coming weeks.”

The former Perth Spirit and Western Force ace will head back to Australia to play for Melbourne Rebels at the start of 2018.

But Lance said he was fully focused on making an impact at Warriors who sit at the foot of England’s top flight after six straight defeats.

“I am here for three months and I definitely came here to win,” Lance said.

“I am confident the team can do that.

“Obviously there is competition for places, but I want to play as much as I can and really help the team out.

“In three months, I want the team to be in a position where everything has changed and the rest of the season can run smoothly.”

Lance made his debut in Warriors’ 29-13 defeat at Bath before playing 77 minutes of their win over Brive last Saturday after replacing the injured Ben Te’o.

He is now set to be in contention for Worcester’s next European Challenge Cup fixture against Connacht in Ireland on Saturday (3pm).

“It all happened pretty quickly to get over here,” Lance added.

“But it’s a great playing group and they have really taken me under their wing.

“To be able to play in different tournaments in England and Europe was just a great opportunity, so I was really excited to get over here.”
