VASTLY-experienced coach Alan Solomons has joined Worcester Warriors to assist director of rugby Gary Gold.

Solomons has arrived at the Aviva Premiership strugglers on a short-term basis and Gold said he would be an "important member" of his backroom staff.

The 67-year-old has amassed a wealth of coaching experience over the last 20 years, overseeing clubs including Ulster and Southern Kings and was assistant coach of South Africa between 1997 and 2000.

He helped guide Edinburgh to the European Challenge Cup final in 2015 during his three-year spell as Edinburgh head coach which ended in 2016.

The South African was also appointed coaching consultant at Bristol in February and remained at the club until the end of the season.

Warriors are looking for a new director of rugby after it was announced Gold would become USA's head coach at the end of the 2017/18 campaign.

Gold said: “We are delighted to welcome Alan to the club as he is someone who possesses huge experience after two decades at the top of the game.

“He will become an important member of the backroom set-up and the knowledge he will pass on to players will be invaluable as we look to get positive results on the pitch.”

Warriors languish at the foot of the Premiership table after suffering six straight defeats.
