UNLUCKY Alcester Town lost out 1-0 to an 89th minute winner against Midland League Division Three title favourites Montpellier from Badsey who included former England and Aston villa star Lee Hendrie in their ranks.

Alcester player-manager Danny Janes described the defeat as one of Alcester's best displays this season but admitted his side wasn't ruthless enough in front of goal when they had the chance.

The match reached a flashpoint with five minutes remaining which resulted with two Alcester players and one from Montpellier being sent -off.

Janes claimed: "In my opinion, Montpellier should have been punished in the same manner.

"Their player started the incident and yes, it did get out of hand, but both teams were at fault and how the referee can decide to send off two of ours and only one of their players is beyond me.

"But I can't say the decision cost us the game because we had the better chances to win the game and that is down to us."

Alcester now embark on a trio of cup matches commencing this Saturday with a trip to CPA FC in the Birmingham Vase.
