DARREN Byfield admits his search for fresh blood is never-ending but insists he is content with his Redditch United squad.

Byfield made only one change to his starting XI for two away victories in 48 hours as Reds ended a three-match losing streak with Saturday’s 2-1 win at Kings Langley and Monday’s 1-0 triumph at Banbury.

There have already been a handful of alterations to United’s squad as summer appointment Byfield attempts to lay new foundations after several players followed predecessor Liam McDonald to Hednesford.

But while Redditch have been light on numbers for certain matches, the manager is adamant he is happy with the resources at his disposal.

Byfield told the Advertiser: “I don’t think any manager in this league will be 100 per cent happy with his squad, you are always looking to improve.

“Personally, I am pretty content with what we have but if the right player who wants to be a part of what we are trying to achieve becomes available then of course, we will consider it.

Reds begin their FA Cup quest with a first qualifying round tie at Coalville Town on Saturday (3pm). The ambitious Ravens were promoted to the same level as United at the end of last season and ply their trade in the Northern Premier League. They have eight points from five games so far.

“It will be tough but whoever you play, even teams two or three levels below you, they will be up for it,” added Byfield.

“This is the FA Cup and everyone loves it. Form goes out of the window and there is not that same respect for your status if you are at that higher level.

“Teams fancy their chances that bit more. There is no pressure on us and if we work as hard as we have been, we will give it a good go.”

United start four rounds from the competition proper and will play for a £3,000 prize pot at the weekend.

Meanwhile, Byfield reckons Monday’s match-winner Jazz Luckie earned the slice of fortune that earned Redditch all three points at Banbury.

Luckie got away with a tug on defender James Fawke’s shirt seconds before netting the decisive goal in a 1-0 victory at the Spencer Stadium.

Byfield said: “I am going to be Arsene Wenger for a moment because I didn’t see that. All I saw was a striker working his socks off to hassle the defender and lead him into making a mistake. Jazz was unlucky not to get one before when they cleared off the line."
