DARREN Byfield will play a waiting game to bring the right players into Redditch United.

The new manager also has 10 players signed up for the 2016-17 season in the Southern League Premier, with 13 players currently on trial at The Valley.

The Reds are keen to add experience to a young squad, in addition to nous provided by Clinton Morrison, Duane Courtney and Clayton McDonald.

Byfield has identified he needs another experienced defender to bolster his youthful backline.

He said: “We have a very young squad at the moment, when we played Bridgnorth on Saturday there was a big age gap between Clinton and Duane compared to the rest of the lads.

“I would like to bring in an experienced defender and I am happy to be patient.

“At this stage it’s about trying to sign players who impress you when on trial, but also making sure you have a bit of your budget left if someone surprising becomes available.”

Trialist Jake Healey scored in United’s 3-1 success at Bridgnorth on Saturday, while Jamie Spencer bagged a brace.

Redditch, whose Valley Stadium home is currently being revamped, go to Loughborough University tonight and have training on Saturday before tackling Worcester City in the Worcestershire FA Cup on Tuesday at Bromsgrove Sporting.
