Redditch Utd 2, Solihull Moors 1

A wonderful strike from skipper Jamey Osborne capped a fine second half comeback as Redditch booked their place in the semi-finals of the Birmingham Senior Cup.

George Carline was also on target for the Valley Stadium side and had it not been for former Reds keeper Danny Lewis, the winning margin could have been far greater with the shotstopper pulling off a string of excellent saves.

The first of these came on 19 minutes when Luke Shearer pulled the ball back for Carline but his effort was brilliantly kept out.

Solihull went close moments later when a snap shot from Asante was gathered by Jose Veiga and it was the visitors who took the lead on 25 minutes when skipper Gavin Cowan headed in a James Armson cross.

It should have been all square just before the half-hour when an Osborne free-kick picked out Carline unmarked at the far post but he managed to steer his header over the target.

Reds winger Jamie Molyneux limped off at the start of the second half and the introduction of substitute Robbie Thompson-Brown brought an extra dimension to the home attack.

And five minutes into the half it was all square. Osborne played a corner to Carline eight yards out and he guided his volley just inside the far post.

Two minutes later Carline had a long-range effort brilliantly tipped over the bar by Lewis but the former United favourite was beaten again on 63 minutes when Osborne curled a superb 25-yard effort inside the far post.

Substitute Jazz Luckie was another to be denied by the Moors keeper midway through the half and Lewis then made an excellent double stop to deny Osborne and Luckie.

The Moors pressed for an equaliser in the final ten minutes and Veiga did well to keep out an Asante shot before the defence hooked the ball clear.

The win means Redditch will now take on Wolves at the Valley Stadium with a place in the final at stake.
