Cambridge City 0, Redditch United 2

Goals from George Carline and Robbie Thompson-Brown secured the points for Redditch and maintained their promotion push.

Cambridge came into the game on the back of three straight defeats but still saw more of the ball in the early stages with Reds keeper Jose Veiga tested by a long-range Joel Norris shot that bobbled in front of him.

The breakthrough came on 24 minutes when excellent work from Thompson-Brown saw him hold off the challenge of two defenders before squaring for Carline to stab home from three yards.

Three minutes later and Ashley Sammons hit the foot of the Cambridge upright before Carline put another effort inches wide.

With half-time approaching, Sammons again tried his luck from distance but this time it was keeper Zac Barrett who denied him.

Redditch create the better of the chances at the start of the second period and barely a minute had gone when a cross by Jordan Cullinane-Liburd picked out the unmarked Jazz Luckie but the striker side-footed over the target from in front of goal.

With the visitors pressing, it was only a matter of time before they doubled their lead and the goal came on 55 minutes. Some excellent passing between Sammons, Luckie and Carline ended with the ball played through to Thompson-Brown who calmly placed his shot beyond keeper Barrett.

Cambridge substitute Alex Surrano did test Veiga with a header and an acrobatic overhead kick from Ieuan Lewis landed on the roof of the net late on as the home side tried in vain to salvage something from the match.
