LIAM McDonald was beaming with pride after Redditch United moved to joint top of the Southern League Premier with a fifth straight win.

Goals for Ashley Sammons, Luke Shearer and Max Loveridge ensured impressive United inflicted Chippenham's first defeat of the season at home.

Redditch boast an impressive league record with ten wins, five draws and just three defeats.

It's an impressive record considering United pick up just four points from the first five league games.

Victory was also impressive as they were missing the injured Jamey Osborne, Jamie Ashmore and Simeon Maye, with the injured Jamie Molyneux and coach David Bridgewater on the subs' bench.

Youngsters and Dan Swan and Brandon Mutibvu also made cameos.

"I am so proud of my players and it was a great win considering we were missing a number of players and we lacked a few options on the bench," said the United manager.

"But if we're going to do well this season we're going to need the effort and passion of young guys like Brandon and Dan.

"The game was very tight but Ashley got a goal out of nothing and that got us going."

Sammons was making his second debut after returning from Corby but quickly made himself comfortable, before Shearer scored from the spot and Loveridge scored late on.

McDonald added: "The whole team deserves great credit because we were excellent to a man.

"We've kept four clean sheets in a row which is something I cannot remember Redditch United doing for a long while.

"But I must also praise Luke Shearer, he's really come on a lot in a short space of time.

"It's a bit like how Jermaine Hylton blossomed but he's got to keep his head down and keep working hard."

Meanwhile, United have a free Saturday and resume the league at Hungerford next Monday (7.45pm ko).

Ashmore and Maye have both returned from injury and may well be sent out to get some match sharpness.
