Dunstable Town 1, Redditch United 2

The Reds finally chalked up their first league win of the season thanks to a goal in each half from skipper Danny Dubidat.

But they had to come from behind after Dunstable opened the scoring with the first real chance of the game.

That goal came on 11 minutes when Jamey Osborne was dispossessed on the edge of his own area and Adam Watkins fired his shot beyond Stuart Parsons in the visitors’ goal.

But the Redditch midfielder quickly made up for that error when, on 23 minutes, he floated a free-kick into the Dunstable area. George Carline rose to head against the upright and Dubidat was first to react as he slid the rebound over the line.

Chances were at a premium in the first half but both sides had chances to add to the scoreline early in the second period.

For Reds, Osborne latched on to a Jamie Molyneux cross only to present home keeper Paul Bastock with a simple save while at the other end, Danny Talbot’s ten-yard effort forced Parsons into action.

Kyle Haynes then put an effort wide for the visitors before Dubidat struck what proved to the winner from the penalty spot on 73 minutes after Molyneux had been tripped.

With time running out, Charlie Smith went close to grabbing a share of the points for Dunstable but Parsons did well to deny him.

And then, in the final seconds, Redditch substitute Jordan Cullinane-Liburd broke clear only for his shot to be deflected past the post.
