Biggleswade Town 1, Redditch United 1

Redditch were denied their first win of the new season when they paid the price for missing a number of chances at Biggleswade.

They made the perfect start, taking the lead after just 14 minutes.

New signing Kyle Haynes made a great run down the right, found Jamey Osborne who neatly flicked the ball past the home keeper leaving Jordan Archer the easiest of tasks to round off the move.

The Reds continued to press with Jamie Ashmore putting an effort into the side-netting before Archer was guilty of missing two good chances before the break.

On 28 minutes, Ashmore and Osborne combined well to tee up the striker but Archer’s shot lacked power and was easily saved.

And with half-time looming, he collected a Liam Spink through ball only to fire over the target.

Biggleswade had hardly threatened Stuart Parsons in the United goal but right on half-time, striker Tony Burnett planted a header wide from close range.

It was a different tale after the break, the arrival of substitute Sam Merson boosting the Bedfordshire side who went into this game with the perfect record having won their opening two matches.

And it was Merson who scored the equaliser on the hour, winning the ball on the edge of the centre circle and lofting a 40-yard effort over the stranded Redditch keeper.

Merson also put a header over the bar before a late free-kick from United’s Osborne was blocked by the wall.
