REDDITCH United have swooped to sign Stourbridge defender Will Richards.

Richards returns to the Valley Stadium outfit after a two year spell with the Glassboys.

He has agreed a one-year contract at the Reds and is seen by manager Liam McDonald as a centreback, despite being played in a variety of different positions at the War Memorial Ground.

McDonald has been working on Richards’ capture for some time, even before defender Dan Scarr left United for Stourbridge this week.

“Will has signed a one-year deal and I think this is a great addition,” said McDonald.

“His time at Stourbridge has improved him as a player and I think he will strike up a good partnership with Jim Mullett.

“He’s been played in several positions but I think he needs to focus on playing in central defence.

“He’s a quiet lad but leads by example and was extremely popular with the fans.”

United have already signed midfielder Robbie Bunn, Daniel Dubidat, Jamie Ashmore and keeper Kieran Preston.

Ashley Sammons, who scored 20 goals last season, has signed for Corby Town.
