REDDITCH United have signed goalkeeper Kieran Preston on a long term loan from Bristol Rovers.

The 18-year-old comes to the Valley Stadium as a replacement for Sam Hornby, who signed a contract with SkyBet League Two champions Burton Albion.

The young shot-stopper comes with a good reputation and earned a call-up for Scotland under-19s squad ahead of last year’s European Championship qualifiers against Norway, Lithuania and Finland.

He was also in contention to be second choice at Rovers last summer and was on the bench for their 2014-15 season opener against Grimsby Town.

The promising young keeper, who was born in Glasgow, was released by Derby and joined Rovers last summer.

He will play for Redditch and also train full-time with The Gas, who won the Conference play-offs to win promotion to the Football League in May.

Red boss Liam McDonald said: “I am delighted to bring in Kieran, he’s a talented young guy.

“It was important to bring in someone who was a like-for-like replacement of Sam Hornby, who did very well last season.”

Preston was the fifth new face to arrive at the Valley. Bedworth pair Daniel Dubidat and Jamie Ashmore were already signed.

United have also brough in highly rated forward Jordan Archer from Tividale.

"I am so excited to sign Jordan because he will be a top, top player,” added the manager.

"He's 63ft, is strong and fast and knows where goal is.

"With Jamie Molyneux, Luke Shearer and Daniel Dubidat as well as Jordan, we are well-stocked with exciting forwards."

But United suffered a setback as Ashley Sammons joined Corby Town.

Redditch were keen to keep the midfielder, who score 20 goals last year, and made him what is believed to be a deal to be the club’s highest paid player.

But he was offered a sizeable deal by the Steelmen.

Defender Dan Scarr has joined Stourbridge but McDonald confirmed he is very close to bringing in an experienced player to fill the gap left in central defence.
