LIAM McDonald has said he he’s raring to go after committing to Redditch United for the 2015-16 season.

The manager and coaching staff Dave Bridgwater and Nicky Green have agreed to remain in charge of the Valley Stadium outfit after positive talks with chairman Chris Swan.

McDonald has always worked under tight financial restrictions and built successful sides by drafting in players from lower down the non-league pyramid.

The manager has been given a slightly improved budget but Redditch still are some way off competing financially with the division's biggest spenders.

Last season, United exceeded expectations when they finished just outside the play-off spots and the club is keen to build on that momentum.

The club is also set to secure five key players on contracts next season, in order to provide stability and avoid a repeat of Jermaine Hylton’s surprise departure to Swindon Town.

McDonald admitted his relief at agreeing to stay and also revealed that despite the uncertainty, he had been working hard behind the scenes to keep his squad.

He is thought to be closing in on a number of new faces but has also seen several of his most consistent performers make the step up.

Midfielder Calvin Dinsley has signed his first professional deal with Conference side Kidderminster Harriers, while keeper Sam Hornby has put pen to paper on a contract with League Two champions Burton Albion.

"I never wanted to leave, I just wanted to make sure everything was right so we can move the club forward," said McDonald.

"I know it's been frustrating for the fans that have been waiting but even when I was talking to Chris, I was working hard to secure the players.

"I want to make sure we bring in players not just from lower down but also from the same level Redditch United and I hope to be able to make announcements very soon.

"We also want to put five players on contract, so we don't lose our key men midway through the season last year, which was very disruptive."

McDonald remained hopeful of keeping Ashley Sammons, although it is believed he is attracting interest from other clubs. Harriers are also thought to be interested in right-sided defender Jordan Jones.

"It's fantastic Liam and his team are committed to the club and we've given his a rise in budget," said the chairman.

"We have big plans, we want to keep our brightest prospects on contracts.

"It's something we've been reluctant to do because of players getting injured but we want build for the future."

Swan revealed he has had positive talks with Redditch Borough Council chief executive Kevin Dicks over the rent wrangle which has delayed installing a 3G pitch at the Valley.

The club remain hopeful of installing the artificial surface for the 2016-17 season.
