THE future of Redditch United manager Liam McDonald is set to be decided next week.

McDonald has made it clear that he wants to stay as Reds boss but only if the club are able to increase the budget for the 2015-16 season.

Chairman Chris Swan and the manager held talks last week, which both parties felt were positive.

Swan was in the process of working out the budget for next season and awaiting to hear back from the club’s fans’ trust before putting together the final total and remained hopeful of keeping the manager.

McDonald was set to go away on holiday before meeting with the chairman again to thrash out what’s next for the club.

The manager and his right-hand men Dave Bridgewater and Nick Green guided United to sixth place in the Southern League Premier, missing out of the play-offs by just a point.

The club’s owners have insisted that the club always pay its way and not overstretch themselves, with the coaching team plucking the likes of George Carline from lower levels of non-league.

McDonald said: “I am still keeping my options open at the moment and I will meet Chris next week to discuss what will happen.

“I feel we have put in a structure at the club in terms of finding and developing players.”

l Meanwhile, Alvechurch have begun the search for a new manager after Lee Knight left once the season had been finished.

Knight revealed last week he will join Highgate United this summer and his final game in charge was a 3-1 defeat to Tividale in the JW Hunt Cup.

Tividale had powered into a 2-0 lead before Luke Dugmore pulled one back but the Black Country side bagged a third.
