LIAM McDonald has vowed to find a way for Redditch United to break down defensive teams.

The play-off chasing Reds endured a frustrating weekend when they were held 1-1 by Bideford in Devon on Saturday and 0-0 at home to Hitchin Town on Monday.

Despite the draws, United are just three points off the top five in the Southern League Premier.

The United manager said: “We are disappointed not to have taken six points.

“It’s difficult, teams are aware of what we are capable of and have decided to try and stifle us.

“I was disappointed with Bideford, we travel hundreds of miles to Devon to play a side with a 4-5-1 formation who are happy to take a point.

“It’s not easy to break down a side when they are sitting back and it’s something we’ll have to get used to.

“But it’s up to me to work out a way where we can win games.

“It’s not a matter or having a plan A or B, we’re a very fluid side and can play in a number of different ways, we can play on the counter, be more direct and hold it up.”

United will be aiming to get back on track but face another 320 mile round trip to Dorchester on Saturday (3pm ko).

While Jim Mutton is set to spend two more weeks sidelined, McDonald does boast an otherwise fully fit squad for the trip to Dorset.

“We may face a similar scenario against Dorset,” added the manager.

“But we’ll be working hard to look at ways of winning games.

“I cannot fault the players, they have been excellent all season, we’re still in the race for the play-offs.

“I just want the players to express themselves and enjoy their football until the end of the season.”

Meanwhile, Redditch United chairman Chris Swan is still thought to be keeping his options open when it comes to moving the club away from the Valley Stadium.

United demonstrated interest in the vacant Edgar Street ground before Hereford FC was awarded the lease.
