REDDITCH United’s plans for next season have been given a lift after three key players have said they are prepared to stay.

Nineteen goal top scorer Jermaine Hylton, defender Callum Flanagan and midfielder Ashley Sammons have all verbally confirmed to boss Liam McDonald they want to play for the Reds during the 2014-15 campaign in the Calor Southern League.

That news is a boost for McDonald and his right hand men Nicky Green and David Bridgewater, who have already set in motion their plans for next season.

McDonald said: “Jermaine, Ashley and Callum have all shook hands with me and said they want to play for Redditch next season.

“It’s a big lift for club because we are working hard on a bright future here.

“We’re trying to have players who see this as an ideal place to make a name for yourself and move onto full-time football.

“I have identified three players who we want to bring in. Two of them are strikers but they are of a good standard.

“Last season we signed players from the Midland Alliance and we may bring in someone from that level but our success this season means that good players want to come here.”

Hylton and Flanagan both won two accolades at the club’s end of season awards ceremony on Saturday.

Flanagan was players and supporters’ player of the season, while Hylton earned the top scorer award and the manager’s player prize.

Jim Mutton was junior fans’ choice, while midfielder Leavi Oshungbure was chairman Chris Swan’s pick.

Redditch were hoping to end a season where they overachieved by sealing some silverware last night.

They were set to play Evesham United in the Worcestershire Senior Cup.
