LIAM McDonald says winning some silverware would be the 'icing on the cake' for a successful season.

Redditch United play Evesham next Tuesday at Aggborough in the Worcestershire Senior Cup final (7.45pm ko).

McDonald has enjoyed an encouraging first season as United boss, breaking the cycle of relegation battling with a tenth place finish in the Southern League Premier - their highest finish for a decade.

Now he wants to bring home a cup to finish the campaign in style.

He said: "Winning the cup would definitely be the icing on the cake.

"I wouldn't say we've had a great season but it has been a good one which we want to build-on.

"When I was given the job by Chris Swan I told him we would be competitive and we've managed to do that.

"It has been a great second half to the season, the players have done very well."

McDonald is currently in talks with chairman Swan about a deal to keep him at the club.

United complete the season with a 63 point haul on Saturday as they defeated bottom of the table Bashley 4-0.

Jamie Molyneux bagged a brace, while Jermaime Hylton and Omari Sterling-James also hit the back of the net.

"It was good to end the season on a high," said the United boss.

"The players have responded to the what myself, David Bridgewater and Nick Green have been telling them.

"We kept it simple at the start because we didn't want to overload them but they have taken on more information as the season has went on."
