Goalless run continues for Reds

Redditch United 0 Weymouth 0

Redditch were held to a third goalless draw in four games as Weymouth returned to the south coast with a share of the Valley Stadium spoils.

And yet it could have been a different story had Connor Deards made the most of a chance inside two minutes rather than seeing his effort blocked by visiting keeper Simon Evans.

Weymouth also had chances early on, predominantly from striker Ben Joyce who fired into the side-netting on 12 minutes before drilling another effort the wrong side of the post three minutes later.

When Joyce did hit the target, he found United stopper Niall Cooper in his way, the Redditch keeper producing a fine fingertip save to push the striker’s effort over the crossbar.

And there was also drama at the other end where Deards pounced on a loose ball only for his shot to hit the far post.

It was a similar tale after the break with the sides squandering good chances.

Cooper pulled off another good save to deny Dan Smith in a neat move from the Terras and then showed quick thinking to race from his goal just as dangerman Joyce looked to latch on to a long ball forward.

For the Reds, Liam McDonald crashed a shot wide before the impressive Jack Cresswell was thwarted by a brave Evans save at his feet.

With four minutes to go, a Cresswell free-kick caused problems for the Terras’ defence but Asa Charlton just failed to divert it over the line.

Reds: Cooper 7, Stringfellow 7, Charlton 7, Midworth 6, Flanagan 6, Bridgwater 6 (Meacham 46, 6), CRESSWELL 8, Price 6 (Wilding 65, 7), Danks 6, Deards 6, McDonald 7. Subs (not used): Clarke, Quaynor
