Delayed Reds go down in Dorset

Weymouth 3, Redditch United 0
REDDITCH returned empty handed from a testing trip to Dorset after being ruthlessly punished for squandering their early opportunities at Weymouth.
The Reds, buoyed by their midweek win at Bedford, created two presentable openings before the Terras took control at the Wessex Stadium.
Preparations for the clash were far from ideal after United’s team coach was held up in traffic caused by Worcester Warriors’ team coach fire on the M5, delaying kick-off by 20 minutes.
But despite soaking up some early pressure, the Reds rallied and created the better opportunities early on only for Kyle Patterson and Harvey Headley to fluff their finishes.
A slick passing move between Jamie Molyneux and Headley set up Patterson but the experienced front man side-footed wide from eight yards with the goal gaping on 13 minutes.
Jermaine Hylton then showed his marker Scott Walker a clean pair of heels to set up Headley at the near post but the burly striker tried a clever flick and the ball evaded him.
United keeper Sam Hornby nearly handed the hosts a gift of a goal with a poor clearance on 22 minutes but recovered well to deny Terras’ target man Stewart Yetton.
However, the reprieve was short lived as Weymouth’s Sam Poole plundered the opener at the far post following Scott Walker’s corner and some naïve Redditch defending.
The home side stayed on top and found an extra gear after the interval with Yetton hitting the post straight after the restart, but the lead was soon doubled when the unfortunate Rikki Bains powered a header into his own net from Luke Burbidge’s swirling cross.
Mark Hands spurned a glorious opportunity to pull one back for Redditch, heading into the grateful arms of Jason Matthews from Harry Austin’s inswinger.
But the hosts remained on the front foot with Mark Ford hitting the post before the third and final goal came when Burbidge fired home from close range after some slick passing had led the Redditch defence a merry dance midway through the second half.
