REDDITCH United boss Simon Redhead has urged his players to stand up and be counted ahead of Saturday’s bottom of the table clash against Hitchin Town.

United face a game that could go along way to defining their campaign at the Valley Stadium.

They are currently two points and one place above the Canaries, who occupy the second relegation spot.

With crisis club Kettering firmly stuck at the foot of the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division, there is only one place in the drop zone to fill.

Redhead insists his team can get an all-important result.

He said: “This is a very important match for us.

“If we win then we could find ourselves back in a mid-table spot but if we lose we’ll be in the bottom two.

“But we’re working very hard to make sure we’re ready for the match.

“It won’t be easy and with the way our pitch is we may have to be more direct but we need to use that to our advantage.”

Redhead is hoping to draft in two players before Saturday’s crunch clash, which kicks-off at 3pm.

He is targeting a powerhouse centre forward to add some muscle to the strike force and a wideman.

The manager believes the fans could make a difference at the weekend.

He added: “The club is working hard to try and get the message out to fans that their support could make a difference.

“Attendances have been down a but this a big game for the club.”

Meanwhile, it looks as though Connor Deards is set to go out on loan to an unnamed club this week.

The former Walsall youngster was signed with much hope he would lead Redditch’s forward but has struggled for form so far.

Redhead said: “It’s hard to say why Connor has struggled so much.

“I think he’s not found the transition from being full-time at Walsall to part-time very easy.”
