MANAGER Simon Redhead admits Redditch United must pick up points from two vital home games in order to prevent slipping further down the Southern League Premier.

United fell to 17th after Saturday’s 4-0 loss at leaders Hemel Hempstead.

But they have games against play-off chasing Cambridge City on Saturday (3pm ko) and the rearranged clash against Bashley next Tuesday (7.45pm ko) to bounce back.

Redhead is only too aware in such a tight league that stringing two results together can make a huge difference.

He said: “We’ve got two matches coming up and it is important we pick up results.

“We’ve lost one game and had another called off and dropped to 17th in the table.

“Before that we won two matches in a row and put ourselves in mid-table, it is so very tight.”

He is also hoping Saturday’s poor showing at Hemel was a one-off as for the second time this season, Redditch conceded four against them.

With on-loan Tamworth keeper James Wren out injured with a thigh problem, 18-year-old Bradley Catlow was drafted into play and produced a man of the match performance.

“It was a bad day and one we’d like to put behind us as quickly as possible,” said Redhead.

“We started badly, made a mistake for their first goal and our heads dropped.

“They scored a second but we tried to change things around in the second half.

“We missed a couple of chances which if we had taken we’d have been back in the game but we missed those and Hemel scored two.

“To be honest I am glad to see the back of them.”

Player/coach Asa Charlton will miss the next two matches as he completes his suspension, while Catlow is expected to keep his place in the side. Lindon Dovey is still out injured.

Meanwhile, Jake Reid will play his last game for the club on Saturday, completing his loan from AFC Telford. United have also made striker Connor Deards available for loan.

In the Midland Football Alliance, Studley picked up an important point as the battled back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Coleshill.

They entertain Ellesmere Rangers at home on Saturday (3pm ko).
