Redhead: We're ready for the leaders
6:03pm Wednesday 28th November 2012 in Sport
REDDITCH United manager Simon Redhead has warned Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division leaders Hemel Hempstead they are in for a battle.
The Valley Stadium outfit are set for a stern test of their new found good form on Saturday (3pm ko).
Back-to-back wins over Chippenham and Kettering have given their confidence a much-needed boost and they will need it against Hemel.
But the Vauxhall Road side will be smarting after a surprise 4-0 loss to Banbury on Saturday.
The last time United took on Hemel they were beaten 4-1 but since then they have won four of the last seven Premier Division games.
“I feel we’re going in to the game on the back of successive wins and with our confidence increased,” Redhead said. “Hemel lost 4-0 at the weekend so they will be looking to bounce back but I feel we’ve got a chance.”
Meanwhile, Redhead felt it was the right deicision to abandon Saturday’s game with Bashley at half-time with the score 0-0.
The game had been given the go ahead after a 9am pitch inspection but the weather steadily worsened as the day went on.
Redhead said: “If we had been playing a side nearer Redditch we could have had the pitch inspection a bit later.
“As it was we wanted the game to go ahead and while Bashley didn’t, they were happy enough to play.
“But an hour before the game the heavens opened and the situation got worse.
“I was very frustrated when the game was called off as I thought we were playing well but in honesty the match perhaps should not have gone ahead.
“There was so much water in one corner you could not kick a ball.”
Striker Jake Reid looks set to play his final game for Redditch on Saturday as his loan from AFC Telford comes to an end next week.
