MANAGER Simon Redhead believes improving Redditch United still have a chance of the play-offs but admits that the league is almost too tight to predict.
United made it back-to-back wins for only the second time this season after they edged out Chippenham 1-0 at the Valley on Stadium in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division.
That victory cemented their mid-table position, six points off the relegation zone and just five off the play-offs.
Redditch have slowly improved as the season has progressed and four wins in the last seven games have seen them looking up rather than down.
But Redhead remains cautious about his team’s prospects.
He said: “The league is so tight that if you drop points you can find yourself in deep trouble.
“If we had lost the last two matches instead of win them then we could have been in the relegation zone.
“But if you can string two or three results together it makes a difference.
“It is hard to predict where we will finish but it is entirely possible we reach the play-offs, if we win two out of every three.”
Redhead was also encouraged by United’s new found defensive resilience as they made it two clean sheets in succession.
He added: “Our pitch is not the best at this time of year and it is important to score the first goal. We’ll be focusing on Bashley, they are only one point ahead of us so it could be close.”
United are hoping seniors players Alex Hickman and Liam McDonald will be back from injury soon.
Player-coach Asa Charlton starts a three match ban at the weekend with either Hickman or Will Richards coming in.
