Heggs back at The Valley

LATEST: REDDITCH will play Kings Lynn, managed by former assistant Carl Heggs, in a pre-season friendly at home on Tuesday July 14.

REDDITCH United return to pre season training tomorrow (Thursday) with the club getting ready for the new season on and off the field.

The boardthis week announced they are slashing matchday admission prices by 20-per-cent in the 2009-10 season.

Entry to the Valley Stadium will cost £8 for adults, £5 for concessions (over 65s and students on production of a valid NUS card) and £1 for under 16s.

A board meeting held last week decided on the move, designed to encourage more families and a larger section of the community to games.

Season tickets will cost £145 for adults and £80 concessions.

Club chairman, Ken Rae said: ”A club is nothing without its fans and we want to ensure that we do what we can to make it affordable for our supporters to come down to the stadium and get behind the team.

“With the exciting young squad Gary (Whild) and Micky (Moore) are putting together, we are all excited about the season ahead.

“If we can build on how we finished last season, playing some of the best football we have seen for many years, it would be great for our fans to share that with us and be a part of what we hope will be a good season for us.

“Children are the future hard core supporters at any football club and should be encouraged to attend as often as possible.

“We want to build a reputation for being a family club and therefore want to encourage parents to come along with their children and share the Redditch United experience together. “

Manager Gary Whild said he hoped the initiative would see more fans coming through the gates of the Valley Stadium next season as the coaching team prepare the team for the action.

He said: “We have all been waiting to pre-season because as a manager or as a player this is what you look forward to-getting out there on the pitch.

“There will be a lot of activity in pre-season with players on trial and seeing whether clubs are for them – we are no different from any other in that respect.

“And there will still be time for us to sign players but at the moment we are just going to do some fitness training and get the present squad back into the groove.

“Most of them know each other anyway so there will be no problem with that and the friendlies we have lined up will give me a good chance to look at them in a match situation.”

Redditch have added to the list of pre-season friendlies and will entertain Kettering Town at home on Tuesday July 28.

The Reds sold defender Exodus Geohagon to Kettering in 2008 and he has since gone on to star in an FA Cup run and win England C honours.

He is expected to be part of a strong Kettering line up which may also include former Walsall winger Darren Wrack and ex-Birmingham City full back Nicky Eaden.

Redditch will also travel to Kings Norton based Pilkington XXX on Tuesday July 21 (7.45pm) in a game expected to feature a number of trialists.
