REDDITCH Swimming Club’s season started with a flurry of team galas, open meets, county events and a biathlon.
First off were the nine to 12 year old swimmers in the Molly Brown gala held at Bromsgrove.
There were individual wins for nine year olds Isobel Wilson, Tom Savage and Jack Harding, 11-year-olds Adam Watson and Chris Sutton-Smith and 12-year-olds Sam Lindsay and Harriet Jarvis.
There were also relay wins for the nine-year old boys, James Higgins, James Coward, Jack Harding and Tom Savage, in both freestyle and medley and the 11-year-old boys (Adam Watson, Chris Sutton-Smith, Stephen Dear and Ricky Monk).
The 12-year-old girls Sam Lindsay, Clara Parker, Harriet Jarvis and Lucy Corden also completed a pair of victories.
Final Result: 1. Oldbury 257. 2. Perry Beeches SSS 240, 3. Redditch 234, 4. Wolverhampton Masters 104.
Nineteen of the younger swimmers entered the Worcester County Development meet held at Wolverhampton.
Leading the medal tally was Caitlin Britt who took gold medals in nine-year-old freestyle and butterfly and silver in backstroke, nine-year-old Oliver Thomson scored silver in backstroke and 100m individual medley and bronze in freestyle.
In the 12-year-olds, Sophie Bridgman took gold in the individual medley and second in backstroke, Molly Dutton silver in freestyle and Lydia May silver in breaststroke.
Bronze medals were achieved by Braiden Hartles (boys 11 yrs freestyle), Tom Savage (nine years breaststroke) and Amelia Tompkin (10 years breaststroke).
Top ten finishes also went to Nicola Moss, Francesca Phillips, Clara Parker, Dan Bridgman, Harriet Jarvis and James Coward.
Then the club travelled to Nuneaton to enter the Sports Forum Trophy gala.
Redditch fought hard against strong opposition, finally finishing fifth in the competition.
Wins were scored by Amelia Tompkin (10-year-old freestyle and breaststroke), and the nine-year-old girls relay Megan Moss, Isobel Wilson, Talia Mitchell and Isobel Griffiths.
Second places were taken by Talia Mitchell, Megan Moss, Francesca Phillips and Nicola Moss and the girls ten years relay squad Francesca Phillips, Amelia Tompkin, Alex Jones and Caitlin Britt.
Final Result: 1. Nuneaton and Bedworth Blue 340, 2. City of Gloucester 266, 3. Kingsbury Aquarius 239, 4. Stratford Sharks 228, 5. Redditch 201, 6. Haden Hill 192, 7. Bromsgrove 177, 8. Nuneaton Red 146
On the same day as the Nuneaton Gala four RSC swimmers took part in an open meet at Ponds Forge in Sheffield, returning with 11 medals and a speeding ticket for going too fast!
Sophie Bridgman won the 100m butterfly A event, got the speeding ticket in the 50m fly A event and took another gold in the 50m breaststroke B event. Braiden Hartles (3) and Dan Bridgman (5) added further medals to the total.
The following week, RSC athletes took part in the regional qualifiers for the Pentathlon GB Triathlon and Open Biathlon held in Solihull.
Courtney Hyde won the girls Youth B Triathlon and Nicola Moss came second in Youth D girls.
She also competed in the biathlon and took first place in Youth D.
In Youth D boys Braiden Hartles finished second and Ricky Monk sixth. Will Moss came in second and Megan Moss third in Youth Eminis.
The club’s girls took part in the club’s own girls gala held at Droitwich.
Nine-year-old Caitlin Britt was again in good form winning the breaststroke and came second in the butterfly.
For the 10-year-olds, Amelia Tompkin took first in breaststroke and also second and third places in 11yr old and 10yr old freestyle.
Francesca Phillips took second spot in the butterfly.
Eleven year old Nicola Moss took first in breaststroke and second in butterfly.
Twelve year old Molly Dutton won the freestyle, Lydia May took second in breaststroke and individual medley and thirds went to Clara Parker and Sam Lindsay who also took third place in the 14- years backstroke.
Thirteen-year-old Sophie Bridgman took first place in the 100m butterfly and second in the individual medley and added third in the 14-years butterfly.
Brittany Rhodes came in third in the freestyle at 13 years.
Fourteen-year-old Michaela Britt took second in the 100m freestyle and breaststroke and second in the open age breaststroke.
Strong relay performances kept Redditch in contention for second place but they were just pipped in the final few races.
Final Result: 1. Stourbridge 202, 2. Droitwich 153, 3. Redditch 149, 4. Bromsgrove 100, 5. Evesham 95.
On the following day a group of swimmers took part in the Worcester County Senior Sprints. again held at Wolverhampton.
Club captain Paul Wilkes led the way with wins in the 17-24 year old individual medley and butterfly. Laura Cranshaw added a win in 17-24 breaststroke and seconds in the individual medley and freestyle.
Top six finishes were recorded at 13 and under by Sumant Kapoor (freestyle), Sophie Bridgman(butterfly) and Michaela Britt (breaststroke).
