REDDITCH find themselves facing a mountain to climb to avoid relegation from Division 4 West South after they suffered an agonising last gasp 33-29 defeat to fellow strugglers Birmingham Civil Service.

The result leaves BCS two points ahead of Redditch going into the final couple of league fixtures.

Given that one of BCS's fixtures is against already doomed Tenbury, it means Redditch must realistically win their final games against Burbage and Claverdon to stay up.

Redditch apeared to have done enough to secure victory against BCS as they led 22-5 at one stage, but let that advantage slip.

After conceding an unconverted try, Redditch began to take charge and went in front when skipper James Mills opted for a tap penalty which resulted with John Wormington wriggling his way over for Sam Gladwin to convert.

Will Ballion then bulldozed his way over for a second try after winning good ruck ball before Gladwin made it 15-5 with a penalty.

The lead was extended further after half time when another searching Lewis Saddington kick resulted with Ballion hackiing the loose ball over the try line and diving on it before Gladwin again converted.

BCS threw caution to the wind at this stage and stunned Redditch with two tries in rapid succession as they clawed the scoreline back to 22-19.

Redditch roused themselves again and another Saddington kick was seized upon by the ever eager Ballion, who in turn linked with Mark Green before sending Steve Wilman over to score and Gladwin converted.

That score put Redditch back in the driving seat at 29-19 but the advantage was short-lived.

BCS cut the deficit again to just three points with a try under the posts. But instead of ticking down the clock, Redditch were rocked when BCS snatched an interception on the half way line which resulted in a try, condemning Redditch to an uncertain finish for the remainder of the season.
